Hello Pauline,
There is another way to play back you audio from any spot you like, even if you are working with the envelope.
The trick is to get out of the audio window and go to the edit window. Then place the scene that you want to check out the audio, into the work window. Now, if you click on the "Range" button at this time it'll open up the range window and show you the "position" button.
While you are in the edit window.......and NOT IN THE AUDIO window.....you can now adjust where you would like to start play back by just ranging over to the spot you are interested in. So if you have a 5 minute audio section to listen to, just play it back in the edit window after having selected the exact spot you wish to listen from....say 3:36 into it, and hit play and you'll be able to monitor your adjustments without having to listen all the way from the begining of the audio segment.
This also helps when you need to check out the middle of any long scene that you are working in either video editing or audio editing. Rather than have to play it back from the begining you can move to the exact position you want to check up on. It's much faster this way and eliminates all that sitting around waiting to playback long scenes just to get to the section that you need to see or listen to. Try it....you'll like it. Just remember.....you have to be in the edit screen and not in the Audio screen.
