HAPPY BIRTHDAY S400Pro (PAL)posting.php?mode=post&f=14#
The new baby was delivered on the first of May 2008 and installed in the strange empty space left by my traded in Kron+. So what have we to celebrate?
In the last year we have produced nearly 200 DVD’s without problem (Verbatim –R). I think the longest was about one hour with seven films on. The baby has been fed with updates as they have come along.
All footage has gone in via firewire from Canon XM1 (GL1), XL2 and XHA1. (No problems now) HDV files are transferred to my PS3 via DVD and do they look good, WOW! HDV scaled to DV is now much better. AVCHD that is supposed to play on other BlueRay players is poor quality.
So how is the baby growing? Much slower than expected.
Twixtor is great, so is Deshaker. Media Manager deserves a lot of joined up thinking; not a good start. I need to access it from Photo Studio to get at my photos. I’ve not yet tried out PS2 properly. I have no interest in accessing my editor in another country but I would like the Ethernet connection to work with my other computer. I did make it work once, yes just once! Elastic Dreams where are you?
So at the party there are nearly 200 happy DVD’s; and a lot of basic editing done without problems; and some still dysfunctional software.
Conspicuous by its absence is CB Paint2. Considering this was flagship software it seems to have sunk without trace; not even a stream of bubbles is breaking the surface. I would like a license for TV Paint; I’ve spent too much money to let that one lie dead in the corner.
The baby at one year old has great potential, but seems to be lacking in certain important vitamins that are stunting its growth. I hope it will not end up confined to a wheelchair; it ought to be an Olympic winner.
Cheers Alan.

Re: HAPPY BIRTHDAY S400 Pro (PAL)
Well Alan...
I too AM still disappointed at the bugs, dropped frames, errors, etc in my box since "it was brought home last August".
Poor guy just sits to one side with his power cords/cables slumped over at my editing station from an apparent stroke.
He hasn't been able to do ONE SINGLE JOB since he arrived here.
I never knew that "new borns" cost so much to have, to not do EVEN anything in HD error free.

Trade in? As far as I know the main difference between the S4000 and the S4100 is the slightly faster processor and mechanically larger components that are easier to source. Also the software used in both machines is the same. I would love to know why some people seem to able to get their machines to do what they need and others find them useless?

They don't Alan. I don't think there are that many issues with people editing in SD.Alan wrote:Trade in? But...trying to Edit in HD with THIS machine was nothing but a major headache of a disappointment and many, many, many hours of wasted time.
If you're wanting to editing in true HD, I sure wouldn't buy an S-4100 or S-2000 yet as there are still so many old issues that have yet to be fixed.
And I hope, hope, hope they get with the program and get the bugs fixed ASAP or they are going to continue to bleed off more former users.

Add to that analogue is a complete and utter waste of time and yes analogue is still a nice earner,a fix for analogue is supposed to be in beta testing but that was nearly three weeks ago.
It's my belief that these units were sold known that the only use for them was as a book end.
I do believe that Bogart will with Media Manager in the end will amaze us with what it can do i just wish MS had been more open.

Re: HAPPY BIRTHDAY S400 Pro (PAL)
Not being open about problems is a dreadful mistake, particularly when they are obvious to the customer.
On HD I wonder if there is a difference between PAL and NTSC software, as my machine, particularly recently, has been very good at HD editing. When I first had the S4000pro there were problems with part frames seen and missing frames. Getting 20min of video in was a nightmare the first time I tried. I'm not even using HD quality tapes now. I wonder if there is a difference between HDV and AVCHD?
Cheers Alan
