PS-2 Serious Problem

Post by vdoeddy »

I now believe that my PS-2 is causing my KRON to be very unstable. On my first project ever using PS-2, I had set my photos for 7-seconds each and also set the default setting for 7-seconds, but when I go to my Story Board Project, all the photos were changed to 5.25 seconds. A very wierd time setting?? If I work on any of the 5.25 seconds photos using either TX , FX, and/or Titling on the SB line, it seems to corrupt that particular photo and will not even play back and locks up the KRON and gives me the fatal Red Box Doom shut-down box. I have now installed a new 160GB HD, re-installed my 4.1d Smart Edit (complete install) but still have the same problem. And yes, I do have 128mg RAM. To me, I am now convinced I either don't know how to use the PS-2 correctley are I have a corrupt sofeware program. If any one has any suggestions I would deeply appreciate it as I am trying to create a photo montage for my 90 year old father for his upcoming birthday this month.

Hello Ed,

I think from past experience with MacroSystem, the time problem in PS-2 is probably because of it being designed in PAL originally which is 25 frames per second rather than 30 FPS that we use NTSC. So that if they forget to change the time factor when they converted the software to NTSC, that 7 seconds would turn out to be 5.25 instead. They probably need to make a correction to that in an update.

So an easy work around is to just anticipate the timing difference between PAL and NTSC and set your desired time for each photo to a longer setting that will still yield the seven seconds that you want. Try maybe 8.0 or 9.0 seconds and see what you get running at NTSC speed of 30 FPS.

I don't believe it's hurting your Kron at all.....it's just a minor irritant that MSDE didn't take care of when converting to NTSC. Unfortunately they have done the same thing in the past.

However, it is very possible that you do have a corrupted download of PS-2 and a new one may solve any additional problems that this may have created. But the timing issue is a simple cure.

Ed.

According to the System Requirements for PS-2 it says 256mb of RAM. If you are only at 128mb, that could also be part of the problem with the software functioning properly.
