Archive HD on Std. DVD

Somewhere I read HD video can be saved on Std. DVD's (not BuRay). Assuming 1920x1080i footage, how many minutes will fit on a Std. DVD?

It is my understanding that you are looking at a capacity around 37-minutes (based on a post on the Cassie Tips List). However - this capability requires a Casablanca NextGen editor with the Bogart OS V2.3+ (and Arabesk 4.4+). You can read more about it here:

You can create an AVCHD DVD disc of your HD project. This can be played in HD quality on most of the Blu-ray players and on all Bogart systems.
AVCHD uses a very good and complex compression algorithm. So you can put up to 55 minutes or so onto a Double-Layer DVD in finest HD quality.
You can use standard DVDs to put something like 30 or 35 minutes of AVCHD on it. You can use your standard DVD writer for this purpose.

Ok, someone already said that you should install the latest Arabesk version and the latest Bogart version.

At least over in the States, few players will playback MS created Blu ray and there are stuttering problems with some of the few that do.

Right now I would not try selling a Blu ray product created on a gen3 MS machine unless the customer owned a gen3 MS machine.

But I think 55min is not "a very short" project, isn't it? (on Double Layer DVD)

Also bear in mind that 'Archive' and 'DVD' don't go very well together - at least not in my book . . .

Although the quality is good the longevity is poor unless you use Archive Quality DVD's.
