Casablanca Unit: S2000 with all software. I also have a Prestige that I used on my film transfer station. I have B4W loaded on a laptop. I have a S4000 Pro that I am going to trade in for a discount on software for my B4W setup. I even have my first Cassie, the AVIO that I am going to hook up. Not sure what I will use it for but I want to see it run again.

Disk Transfer

Post by MikeMattke »

I have a S-4000Pro and and Avio. I can use disk transfer to export from my 4000 to the Avio but I can't go the other way. I remember somone telling me that if you want to use DVD-RW discs, you have to use discs that are ony 1x write speed. However, I onlyhave DVD-RWs that are 4x. Was there an update, a setting I missed or some other way that I can export from my Avio using these 4x DVD-Rws?

If not, does anyone know of a vendor that still sells the 1x DVD-RW discs? I have some scenes/projects that are on my Avio that I would like to get on my S-4000Pro. Some are longer than 20 minutes so even if I could get the DVD-RW to work with the Avio, I would still be SOL on these longer scenes/projects.

Thanks for whatever assistance can be rendered!

Hi Mike

I have never used Disk-Transfer what I do I connect the fire wire cable to the Pro and transfer it that way. It is real time but I do something different in the mean time.
Make sure both machines are off when connecting or disconnecting the cable.

Thanks for the reply. So you connect the Pro to the other machine directly? In the drop-down box to select where to export/import it lists them as sources?

Hi Mike

Yes you connect them to each other by your firewire cable.

Go into your finish window in your Avio choose DV not Dv Recorder Controle it won't work.
Set your Pro to the normal Record window as you do when you record from a camcorder choose
of course DV as input press the play button on your Avio and the footage should come up on your Pro
so you could press record there.Use the timer function so you don't have to keep en eye on it.

Tip; Put a 5 sec black scene on the front of your footage because it is a bit slow when you play it out of your machine.

When I had two units I always used direct firewire. It is the same as to a cam, except you have to manually start record on the receiving unit so I recommend adding a five second leader to the Storyboard. Also, be sure to make the connection with at least one of the units powered off and personally I would play safe and have them both off while connecting or disconnecting the firewire cable.

I hooked them together with the firewire cable but I have one question. I had a bunch of Digital Hotcakes scenes on my Avio. I wanted to transfer them to my Pro. I figured the Auto Split function would work but it doesn't. I was trying to save time by not having to split all of them again, Is there a way to do this do avoid having to do this?

If you haven't added transitions between them (and I cannot think of a reason why you would) it should AutoSplit.

Check your settings in the System Settings regarding time code, etc.

I am not sure what to tell you about the lack of split capability, except what I just read that Tim posted in the Forum (good catch Tim) --- if you had switched your Cut Recognition settings (to allow for HD>SD down-converted footage) then you would need to switch that back to 'Startcode"' to receive "regular" DV footage.

Unfortunately - you would need to switch that setting and then re-import the DV footage which should then be recognized and split, split, split.

Hope that helps!
