Adding The Lapse Time To Video

Post by JeffMenton »

Hi Group:
I've been a way for quite some time because my Prestige machine has not gotten much use lately with the slow down of events in my area.
My Smart Edit Program is 8.3.
I have been asked to add a lapse time to a video scene.
I haven't done this is quite some time and I might have forgotten how I previously did it.
I went to the Finish Screen and activated the Casablanca Time Code with the check mark.
I rendered the scene and saw the lapse time appear. Now where is this rendered scene to appear? Because when I went to burn the DVD it only had the original scene with no lapse time appearing.
How do I get this to burn to a DVD? Can this time lapse scene stand by itself in the storyboard?
What steps have I missed???
Thanks for any advice.

Hello Jeff,

This function in the Finish Window that enables you to provide your client with the elapsed time or essentially a window-dub with the running time only 'prints out' via the connectors (to tape, camera or DVD recorder). Some folks are printing this out to a stand-alone DVD recorder for a quick copy to clients. Others have exported and brought back in to author a DVD in Arabesk. For a tutorial on this process, website members can see this article:

Hi Chet:
How are you???
The event business is way off, thanks to my legal video depositions that we are holding our own. Just returned home from Seoul, Korea before the shooting started.
Thanks for the quick reply to my question.
I have one additional comment to add to my original post.
Under this method I can not put a few seconds of color bars or just black before this time lapse, is that correct?
I had performed the method you described to tape, before my post, and I noticed that it cut off about 2 seconds of the scene before it got recording. I guess there is no way to avoid that?
I wonder if there is a way to do this in my Sony Vegas to avoid any cut-off.
How is the family???
My wife, Rachel, is going to be on a new TV show called Homemade Millionaire next Friday night Dec 17.
The show is for women inventors and she was selected to show her invention from many thousands of other ladies that came out. The show is on TLC (The Learning Channel) at 10:00 PM Miami time, check your local listings in your area to see the air time.
Happy Holidays to you and the family.
Best regards,

Hi Hans:
Thanks for reading the post.
The invention is called "SOCK SLOTS". It is a device for keeping your socks together in the wash, dryer and draw to avoid ever losing socks again.
Go to her web site and see a quick video. This is the video that was submitted to the show, along with a few others, but this is the meat of it.

To be honest I have not used this method recently and cannot recall that particular behavior/issue (not that I don't believe you, I just don't recall that).

If you wanted to put black or bars before the original start of programming it would have to be a scene (or multiple scenes to avoid audio track 'slippage' with the addition of this new scene. Yes, I know you could avoid audio track mishaps if your audio is in the Music or unlocked tracks... but I prefer making absolutely certain that a suggestion I have will not cause any undesirable side effects. Perhaps others who use this regularly will comment.
