HD to YouTube

Post by GrahamJones »

Some time ago, I took Lou Bruno’s advice on how to publish HD films to YouTube – which suggested backing up the storyboard to an external hard-drive, and then offering that up to YouTube and they would do the rest.
That was fine, except that the external drive, being of the FAT32 inclination, would only save about 10 minutes (2.15 gb I think ) and then would create a new file for the rest of the film. No problem if your film is less than 10 minutes, but a bit disappointing when your film is 15 minutes long.
So I got some software made by iSkySoft, called iMedia Converter, that stitches files together while it converts the film to a format that YouTube appreciates.
Everything was fine, until today, when I found that the second part of my 15 minute film had no sound when it uploaded to YouTube. And the stitching was also a bit clumsy.
So I backed up the storyboard in “MTS mode” instead of the “HDV mode” and it split the film into 3 files, but this time all the bits had sound. The three bits merged together in iMediaConverter and then loaded to YouTube perfectly (although it does take a huge amount of time, when you have a pedestrian broadband service like I do).
So, for all you really smart people who know about these things, what is this all about?
What is FAT32 anyway (other than the waist measurement that I tell my tailor when he asks) and is there a FAT 64 available?
Grateful for any insight into this, and all the best,
Graham

Use your OPT. in the scene bin and expert to AVI to your thumb drive. Then upload to You Tube. Thatn s if you have BOGART4.

Otherwise, never had a problem with the HDV method from the scene bin. MTS is too long and the files break up.

FAT 32 works as does NTFS in BOGART. Make sure your thumb drive is not partitioned with the usual Vista accelerator. I would reformat the thumb drive.
