Hello Cassie friends,
As we have recently found out, MSUS and MSDE will no longer sell Smart Edit software. An unusually revolting development for sure.
But I have posted here a message from the UK distributor for MacroSystem products.....Dalco. My friend Martyn Dalby has let us know
that they will still be selling Smart Edit software in both Pal and NTSC. So Dalco to the rescue. Just what Boulder is thinking.....is really a
Mystery to me.
Please read the message about this here:
It may have come to the notice of some users that Macrosystem US and
Macrosystem Germany are discontinuing selling SmartEdit software. Although
this is true we would like to assure our customers that they will not be
affected. Dalco uk will continue the provide software and license numbers
for the foreseeable future. In fact we are now approved by Macrosystem to
provide this service anywhere in the world including the USA.

That's great news, Jim.
It would also be great if Martyn could come to your MGT.

Re: Dalco in the UK to the rescue
Martyn Dably, owner of Dalco attended the first March Get Together and hosted a seminar along with Ian Pearson also of England.
It was a great March Get Together and I believe the two of them had a lot of fun as well, I know I did.
I'd love to see both or either of them over here again, but I know the cost to jump across the pond and half the USA has gotten more expensive over the years.
I also was very surprised by Germany's and MSUS's discontinuance of issuing software licensing for Smart Edit machines, but MSDE couldn't have picked a better distributor than Martyn to be able to service the world.
Martyn speaks English fairly well and understands Americans about as good as we understand ourselves and will be able to service anyone that wants any of the Smart Edit software going forward.

My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life.
At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.
I told them they didn’t understand life.

Tim, I think I can speak for both of us, when I say, we certainly did enjoy our visit to the first MGT. Just to meet all those that normally only appear in print on a monitor was for me priceless. I still think of this forum as an extended family.
As Tim and Jim know, I still keep in touch with them and others on a fairly regular basis and one day I fully intend to make a return visit. Unfortunately for me the MGT takes place just about the time I go on our annual ski trip, but as I am now 70, I guess my skiing days maybe nearing the end. I have already this year cut out the helicopter drop from the top of Mt Blanc.
As for Martyn being the world wide MS software supplier, he has always been on the ball as far as we are concerned, so this could posibly be a good move.
As for speaking English, (lets park that one for now), but the real problem is you lot do not speak Yorkshire and from now on you all may have to spell colour the correct way.

Re: Dalco in the UK to the rescue
Thank you for the accolades gentleman.
One of the reasons MSDE made this decision was because of their move to the Loewe factory. They had to recruit and train new support staff who of course have no knowledge of SmartEdit systems. It is MS policy to support products they sell. Probably another reason was that the damn machines seem to last forever and a little push was needed to trade in for an S machine. (my opinion, not official )
However, not everyone needs to move forward if their old tape camcorders are working well and SmartEdit does what they need. I thought there might be some niche business here as Gary McNally did with the Classic. Incidentally, did I hear Gary was involved in a bad accident? Any news on that?

Re: Dalco in the UK to the rescue
Gary suffered broken ribs and burns to about forty percent of his body and a five week stay in the hospital when a truck he was driving caught fire and exploded throwing burning gas on him as he was getting out.
He is home now recovering and probably will be doing so for a long time.
I know he expects to be able to get back to limited work duty fairly soon.

I don't know about you lot "talking proper like" but I'm originally from Glasgow, North Britain, where we speak perfect English, just like Craig Ferguson and Billy Connolly.
I presently live in Ontario, near Toronto.
