downloading footage

Post by videojim »

I've found a site that I would like to share some stock footage scenes with, but don't know how to get them out of the scene bins of various projects. How do I do that? Thanks!

I am now running on Bogart V5, but I think the following works with Bogart V4.

Exporting scenes to a USB device
1. Select the scene in the scene bin, to be exported.
2. Click the “opt” button on the lower right of the screen, which opens an “Options” window
3. There is an option called “Export actual scene”, but first click the “opt” button in this line and set the quality of the export. The only export option is AVI, but the quality can be set, e.g. 14MBits/s.
4. Click the “Export actual scene” button.
5. In the “Export actual scene” window that opens, choose the destination that the scene should be exported to, e.g. USB Data-Traveler

The scene will be copied to the USB device.

Problem is, it will need to be compressed to go to a website, I am sure. Can't imagine them accepting an uncompressed video file any more than they can take an uncompressed photo file. How do you do that?

This is not really my area of expertise, I just read the manuals or pester our UK guru, Michael D and experiment with what the unit will do.

However, I think your answer is in my first response, step 3, setting the bit rate. I have just transferred a 10s scene to a USB key, one at 8MB/s, which was 10.1KB in size and one at 24MB/s which was 29.6KB in size.

My logic would suggest that the former is compressed more than the latter.

If I have not got this right, then I’m sure someone will correct me.

In any case I will need to do some more reading, it’s an area where my knowledge is limited.

Ian

P.S. If anyone has a link to some “understandable” information on this whole subject of formats, then I for one would welcome it. My searching for an idiots guide to this subject has so far resulted in anything but a simple explanation.
