In the “audio record / edit” screen, with the music you want to use highlighted, go to the “split” function. If you want to have the Solitaire put blank scenes into your story board, make sure your story board is at the point where you want the new scenes to be entered. Then make sure the “Insert as scenes in your story board” button is ticked

If you want the split sections of music to be placed in the audio bin, under the original audio track and later manually add the music to the story board, this box should be un-ticked.

Play the music using the play button in the upper right corner of the box and click the “use” button at the points where your want to split the music, e.g. at each major beat of the music.

If you have powerkey, you can click the keyboard “U” key at each beat, instead of using the track ball.

When you have sufficient split clips, just click the stop button, or if you want the whole track to be split, just let the music clip finish.

If you selected story board scenes, there will be a delay as the scenes are rendered to the story board. When you go to the edit screen, at the point where the story board was left, there will be black scenes with a music note in the scene. This will automatically have the audio rendered to the blank scene.

All you need do now is to select your video scenes you require to go to the music, click “insert”, use the trim to the required start and end point, “OK”.

There have been rare occasions where I need the beat to be very exact and if like me you are not the best judge of rhythm, the cut scenes can vary by up to 2 or 3 frames at each split. In this case I have used the standard split mechanism, with the audio scrub switched on and at the point where the beat is shown, make a split. A bit long winded and also assumes the drummer has a good sense of rhythm.
