Cover your ----

Post by videojim »

I am writing to encourage those of you who don't do so and to praise the wisdom of those who do, to get an uninterruptible
power supply for your editing systems. My UPS will keep things going for 15 minutes after the house power drops out, saving the thought, the signal, and my sanity so I can power down safely until house power is restored. Computer users live and die by them and so should editors. The one worse thing than a total drop for a while is a blink, because it damages circuits with the instantaneous out and back in pulse. A UPS can prevent this, and beeps when it does so. A word to the wise is sufficient.

I will add to Jim's post. Get a UPS AVR (Automatic Volatage Regulator). This helps keeps your current at a steady level as well as giving you several minutes to properly shut down during a power loss.

Yep, Jim Meeker and I have been recommending using a UPS with AVR circuitry to protect your editor for years and it's always worth repeating this for new editors as it can save in process Renders, Projects and even the editing machine itself.

A very worthwhile investment.
My mom always told me that happiness was the key to life.
At school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
I said “happy" and they told me I didn’t understand the question.
I told them they didn’t understand life.
