Hi Guys,
I need to replace the DVD burner on my old Casablanca Kron. I remember popping the lid some time ago, but I don't remember how it's done. I've unscrewed the little screws on the back, but the lid is still stubbornly attached. Is it just brute force? Or is there a trick and a wiggle involved here that I'm unaware of.
No one happens to know where there are pictures online anywhere of getting inside the Kron and even, perchance, pulling and replacing the DVD burner, do ya'll...?
The MS tech support person assured me it's as easy as pie (I never could bake a pie right)...and I've got the Kron and the new burner sitting on my kitchen ready to go.
You know it's a bad sign when you can't get the lid off.
Any helpful advice?
Free pie if anyone knows where there are pictures.
xo,
JOHN

Take a look at this page http://www.dalco.co.uk/pres_dvd_replace.html It actually shows a Prestige but the case is the same. You will need to remove a screw and slide the hard drive bracket sideways to access the DVD burner securing screws. If this is a Kron, ensure the DVD burner jumper is set to SLAVE. If it is a Kron plus it must be set to MASTER. Other illustrated upgrades here http://www.dalco.co.uk/hardwareupgrades.html

. . . and don't forget that you might need to do an installation of the system software to allow the new burner to allocate a bigger partition on the hard drive - depends how old the unit is that you're taking out . . .

Thank you Martyn and Michael. Exactly the information I was looking for. And photos too! What a break for me.
If I need to do a clean reinstall of my OS, I would need to get that firmware upgrade for the burner again, no? Or would a latest model DVD burner now no longer require the firmware?

John,
MSUS lists what model burners are involved in the lastest firmware software.
If the model you are putting in is more recent than those then there is no available firmware upgrades required for it at this time.

Thank you, Tim.
It took a bit of searching, but I found that list at MS FAQs.
My burner is newer then the models listed, so I'll assume that I do not need the firmware upgrade.
It seems all is well for now.
