XDCAM EX Support

I know I have mentioned this topic several times, but I am really looking forward to Bogart NATIVELY supporting the SxS MPEG 4 1080x1920 HD formats of this incredible camera known as the PMW-EX1. Now that AVCHD (H.264) files are supported, then hopefully the XDCAM will be next. I know MS has commited to supporting the formats and it's just a matter of time. I am reading where other editing products are Natively supporting this camera, so I still have faith that MS will support it and will do it in a very unique and efficient way.

Once again, I am soooooooo... greatfull to MS for making our Casablanca Systems easy to use and understand. Just today, I was looking at the interface of a competing product and I was amazed at how many steps and windows you have to pull up just for one particular effect or function. It was WAY too complex. I could have been half-way finished with a project on my Casablanca by the time you figured out how to implement a feature on those systems.

I wanted to provide an update to the question asked above by Joel, there was a dialogue on the Cassie Tips List where Jorg Sprave of Macrosystem DE provided answers to the above question and I wanted folks here as well to learn of this news:

You can directly import the XDCAM files in the Media Manager. Go into Movie Archives, then click on the record icon. Choose USB or DVD as the source. Now, click on "Opt" and make sure the "Import optimized for Bogart"
checkmark is active.

Then you should be able to read in the files.
After that, you can load them into Bogart very quickly using the archives function (no conversion required).

I have not tested this with the SxS card reader, though, just with the CDs and DVDs that people have provided to me earlier. All the files on these disks worked fine. It is very likely that the SxS card reader will work just fine, as the USB compatibility of the BogartSE system is very good.

It supports all of the formats, including 720p. However, all of the footage will be converted into the internal 60 Megabits per second I-frame only MPEG-2 High Def format.

For editing, we need to get rid of the motion compression so we have instant access to every single frame of video.

On the output, you can choose HDV (1440x1080i) or AVC (1920x1080i), or one of the many output formats offered by the Media Manager.

Will the Sony EX-1 SXS cards be read in 48p or 60p meaning slow-mo?

Yes, it will. And they play properly in slo-mo. Bogart 2 will handle all the modes of the EX-1.
My "NTSC" Bogart will also play back PAL clips recorded on the EX-1. The video looks great but they are speeded up by the difference between NTSC and PAL frame rates. One can use Twixtor to slow them down properly but Twixtor doesn't process the audio.

In addition to the ability to import files via USB either with the camera as the reader or via an SxS USB reader. You can also transfer the "BPAV" folder from the SxS card to a DVD and import that way also. I record my EX-1 source files to a DVD for archival purposes and use that DVD to input to the S-4000.
