Compatible DVD Burners - S-2000

Post by XCCOACH »

I have a DVD burner that is jammed closed to the point where I think the gears might be damaged.

Where can I find a list on compatible DVD drives with firmware that work with the S-2000?

LG GH22NS50 for DVD
LG BH10LS30 for Blu-ray

Replacing them is quite tricky as they are mounted to the top case of the machine which needs to be removed and the escutchen fixed to the tray of the burner needs to be removed before you can remove the top case.

"And the escutchen fixed to the tray". I'm interested in this article because I'm thinking of replacing my DVD burner with a blu-ray burner. But what in the world is a escutchen? That's something I never heard of and it isn't in Wikipedia.

Means: Plate.

NOTE WELL: Also be very careful of the Crotus Binder attachment which can cause the Fracazoid Modulator to not recognize the OS as well... if it touches the flux capacitor.

My apologies for the language problem

For escutchen read lump of plastic attached to the front of the DVD drawer. Before trying to remove the top case this lump of plastic must be removed (open drawer and small clip at each side). You then need to remove case screws and slide case back, tilt up enough to reach inside and remove burner cables. The burner is mounted in a bracket to the top case. Then case can be removed. The lump of plastic assembly is attached to the burner drawer front edge plate by a double sided adhesive strip. The front edge plate on the burner drawer will unclip but it is unlikely that it will fit the replacement burner (even if it is the same brand), so the assembly needs to be unstuck and restuck..... or if aesthetics are not important simply leave it off. 8-)

NB The design and mounting of this front plastic assembly has varied a little over the course of production so may not be exactly as described. :?

PS I would not recommend this procedure for the faint of heart. ;)

Martyn,

Hey, it's not a language problem. We have been using that word here for-ever. In America it has always referred to any plate or cover that goes over an opening that allows a knob or key to operate. In cars with CD and DVD players mounted in the dash there is usually an in-between
adapter plate to cover the hole in the dash and allow the control knobs to poke through so they can be operated.

In fancy terms, its like a switch plate on the wall that the light switch sticks out of. Fancy hard to spell word, but it is......and has been in use here as well.

Jim,
You're right it is tricky to spell.... and I spelled (spelt) it incorrectly. Escutcheon http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/escutcheon http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Escutcheon_(furniture)
