Adding film to Arabesk
When I attempt to add film in Arabesk it stops part way through. I don't know where it stops in the process. I thought I remembered that you could make a copy of the entire storyboard which may solve problem of bad frames or transitions. If that is correct, I still can't figure out how to do that. There is plenty of room in Araeesk - no other films. It indicates that it willtake 59% and leave 41% free space. It is uncompressed audio. There is no message - it just stops and stays on the window showing the progress bar. I have Smart Edit 3.6d and Arabesk 3.x. I know this is an old OS. I have untold hours involved in editing my siblings old 8mm films. I would really appreciate any help in figuring this out. Thanks.,

Lou's suggestion is probably the best idea. If your problem is a corrupt scene or effect, this does usually do the trick. The following is my version of the full procedure (originally suggested by Tim). You could try step 7 onwards first and if that does not work try steps 6 and 7 onwards, which is using the NOP and then making a scene to send to another project. However, if that does not work, then try the whole process, using the audio mix. Step 7 is relativeley easy and is not time consuming, it's the NOP process which takes the time, since the whole story board will re-render.
There is one other thing to try first, you say there are no films in Arabesk, but sometimes there is, but they just don't show. In "Arabesk" if you select "Export" (which is the disk transfer system) and click "yes" to the box that says you will loose all created films, right click to go back to Arabesk, this will definitely clear any material out of the system.
Hope it helps.

A9 Glitch Repairing (For DVD Recording)
Story board glitches, corrupt frames, faulty transitions, etc; can create a number of problems, including audio mixing and finishing in the Arabesk program. If the glitch is in an unknown location, which is the usual case, locating and repairing can be a time consuming task.
This repair mainly refers to a film in Arabesk that will not load onto a DVD, which is often where the glitch or fault becomes a problem. Often the story board will play OK, but when loaded into Arabesk the glitch can prevent successful DVD recording.
One method of repair is to export the whole story board out to DV tape and re-import it back to another project, but the following describes a method of achieving the same result, without the use of exporting to DV tape.
1. Back in the main edit screen, select the longest single scene in the scene bin, it must be one that is known to be uncorrupted. This will normally be an original imported scene.
2. Select “Special” – “Scene -> Sample” – “OK”
3. Switch to the “audio mix” screen and with the first scene of the story board selected, click on an empty audio track and then click on “Add” and with the new audio sample selected, click “OK”
4. This takes us back to the audio mix screen and the new audio sample will be in the selected audio track. Using the “Volume” slider, mute the newly added sample.
5. If the audio sample is not long enough to cover the whole story board, add the sample as many times as required and mute again each time.
6. Return to the main edit screen and with the first scene of the story board highlighted, select “fx Image Processing”, “NOP”, “Add”, click on the duration bar (the time button), click on “Range”, “OK” and making sure the “Trim” function is selected, click “Out” and scroll all the way to the right until it covers the whole story board. Left click to come out of the “Out” function and click “OK”
7. Select the “Scene” button, “Range”, “OK”, “Out” and again scroll all the way to the right, covering the whole story board. Now click “OK” and the entire story board will be rendered and a new scene placed in the scene bin.
This process will take a some time, just a little longer than real time using the Solitaire, but will be much longer with say an Avio. However, the process should be quicker than going out to DV tape and back again.
Using the clip board function, place this new scene in a new project, which should be clear of glitches, dropouts, etc. If chapters are required, it will be necessary to split the new scene as required, before adding the film into Arabesk and removing the original faulty version.
This same process can be used on part of a story board, if so required.

Re: Adding film to Arabesk
Bonnie I had that problem when I was editing with an Avio too, several times. I made a single scene of my whole slory board and it worked. I can't remember if the Avio was exactly the same as my Reno but with it you click on the single FX button and when that screen comes up click on scene button on the top left and then it will ask you to name it. You don't have to, its just so you recognize the scene in your scene bin. click ok and then it will want you to choose the start point and the end. Just take it all the way to the end of your story board and then click ok. the scene you named should be in your scene bin. I had one time where that didn't work for me but Chet or someone advised me to move that scene to another thru the clip board to another project and that worked. I hope this is helpful... Bob...

Thank you, thank you, thank you. The step by step instructions for NOP was great and it worked. I just finished adding the film to Arabesk with no problem. I'm off to burn a DVD. Thanks again.
