Jaggies on buildings, bridges, posts, etc.

We just got this question:
"Jaggies (those irritating squiggly lines), how can I prevent them from showing up on a burned DVD or Blu-Ray I've created on my Karat? It is especially noticeable on straight lines (buildings, posts, etc.) when the camera is moving. I've used footage from both my older HD Sony camera on tape and my newer Canon G30 that shoots AVCHD. The storyboard looks great and I've tried different quality settings in Arabesk 6."

Since all DVDs and displays today are Progressive, and most cameras too; we recommend shooting in progressive.
We would use 1920x1080p60, but this requires an upgrade to Bogart 7 on the standalone s-series editors, and the Karat and Topaz.
We just added this fantastic new format.

But for footage already shot in interlace format, it is best to deinterlace it before doing the DVD.
Make a scene of the part of your storyboard you wish to put on the DVD.

Start a new project and set the format to progressive instead of interlaced. Keep everything else the same. Now clip board scene to the new progressive project, and it will convert to progressive.
With Bogart 6 or earlier you are stuck with 1920x1080p30, which will show judders with pans
Now enter Arabesk and create a disc with the progressive project scene.
It should be much better, but shooting in full HD 60 frames per second Progressive is totally awesome.

Good information, but my experience is that my camera's 1920x1080 60p format creates problems in my KARAT in burning an Arabesk DVD. Chet's video for V7 says Arabesk wants to see 1440x1080 30p for burning blurays. Why must there be that reduction in quality and will that be fixed? Most users want to use the highest quality they have.
